I didn’t know it at the time but my art career began in the form of an Architecture degree in London, 2013. I learned the value of precise drawing techniques and core design principles that would greatly mould my future painting language. I never went to art school and often wonder if I missed out but my architectural aspect on the world is the bedrock to my artwork and I couldn't imagine painting without.

Around this time, I found myself repeatedly returning to the Thames river to capture the ornate buildings and bridges in oil. I loved the soft, warm and almost monochromatic colour palettes the city so nicely asked to be painted in. I quickly realised it was the reflecting light across the murky brown water and drizzly day puddles that most attracted me. This era marked the beginning of my perpetual fascination for painting the effects of light and exploring how this can transform the atmosphere of a place.

2019 saw me quit architectural design completely to pursue oil painting full-time. I wanted more water and so moved to Brighton to capitalise on the full day of southerly light over the Channel. After painting the quirky colourful town and sparkly sea for a few years it was time to move onto the next curious chapter for some fresh inspiration.

I travelled SE Asia late ‘24 early ‘25 and saw some of the most active, vibrant and chaotic scenes of my grey London based life. Feeling slightly overwhelmed and energised, I knew I should be delving deeper into a more intense exploration of colour and composition.

I’m now in Western Australia, drenched in sunlight and surrounded by the most beautiful coastline, trees and wildlife. I’m cleaning the webs off my brushes and painting again very soon so keep an eye on the Artwork section of this site or my Instagram page to see what comes next.
